Abstract

This study shows a difference in awareness and experience of physically active and sedentary persons regarding exponential exploitation of natural resources. The objective was to determine the association between sports and non-sports persons' views on the unsustainability of overexploited resources and their awareness of the consequences of exponential exploitation. A descriptive research design was employed, a sample of 200 individuals (100 sports and 100 non-sports persons) from Udhampur, J&K. Random sampling technique was used, with participants ranging from 17 - 30 years. A self-prepared validated questionnaire was used for data collection. Cross-tabulation and non-parametric chi-square tests were applied, with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that 75% of sports and non-sports persons (n=150) were aware of the exploitation of natural resources, while 25% (n=50) were not. A significant difference was found between sports and non-sports persons' awareness of exploitation [χ²(1, N=200) = 20.907, p.<0.0001]. Additionally, 88.5% (n=177) of participants attributed overexploitation to population increase, with a significant difference between sports and non-sports persons [χ²(1, N=200) = 76.636, p.<0.0001].
